CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS
Regular city council meetings are held the first and third Mondays of each month in the council chambers in City Hall, 11 S. Main Street.  Meetings begin at 7:30 p.m.  All meeting agendas are posted in the entrance of the building, the Post Office and the Bank.

CITY UTILITIES
Water, sewer, landfill (this is not garbage), recycling and yard waste are billed quarterly on one bill.  Bills are mailed out the end of the quarter.  They are due by the 15th of the following month.  The minimum for a quarter is $79.79 per quarter for a minimum of 500 cubic feet (1 cu. ft. equals 7.5 gallons).  There is a refundable deposit of $115.00 required to set up a Water/Sewer account which is payable at City Hall. Even though you contract for your own garbage pickup, there will still be a Landfill/Recycling/Yard Waste charge on each quarterly bill because this is a fee to pay Fayette's share for the County Landfill/Recycling program and to manage our Yard Waste Site.

GARBAGE PICKUP
Citizens must contract for their own garbage pickup.  Haulers are:
Bunn Services  Call 1-877-286-6462.

Waste Management of Northern Iowa, in Independence, pickup is on Tuesdays. Call 1-800-747-0473.
All cardboard must be placed in the blue recycling bin by the Post Office because the landfill has banned all cardboard so the garbage haulers won't take it.

RECYCLING
There are recycling bins located by the Post Office on Washington Street where you can bring plastic, paper, cardboard, tin cans and glass.  If you have questions regarding recycling you can call the Fayette County Recycling Center at (563) 425-422-3712.

BURNING
Open burning is not allowed in the City.  The only burning allowed is for burning leaves, branches and landscape waste but please don't burn on the street.

YARD WASTE SITE
The City operates a site for yard waste for residents of the City of Fayette to dispose of grass clippings, shrubbery, garden waste, leaves, trees and branches.  There is a charge of $4.00 per quarter on city utility bills for the management of this site.  The site is open during the months of April through October.  The open hours are Wednesdays from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.  The road to the yard waste site is located at 911 Washington Street as you go south out of town.  No bags, boxes or garbage, etc. can be put at this site due to Iowa DNR regulations. Thank you for your cooperation.

FAYETTE COUNTY LANDFILL
Fayette County owns and operates the landfill located about 1 ¼ miles southeast of Fayette on County Road C-24.  Their hours are Mon-Fri. 8 - 4, Sat. 8 - noon.  Their phone number is 425-3037.  They will close the landfill on short notice when there are high winds.  You may take your garbage to the landfill and dispose of it at no charge, but the landfill has a fee to dispose of items like furniture, appliances, tires, etc.

BUILDING PERMITS
Building permits are required for buildings or structures, decks, etc. that are erected or altered.  Contact the city clerk for information regarding building permits.  These permits are approved by the Mayor, Public Works Director and City Administrator/Clerk so you need to plan ahead and apply for the permit early.  You need to have the permit before the project is started.  The fee for the permit is $10.00 or $25 depending on the cost of the project.

IOWA ONE CALL
Be sure and call Iowa One Call before you do any type of digging in your yard.  This will help prevent any underground service from being hit.  1-800-292-8989 or just dial 811

ANIMAL OWNERS
It is unlawful for any owner to allow an animal to run at large within the corporate limits of the City or cause damage or interference to someone's premises.  Animals caught running at large will be impounded.   When animals defecate on either public or private property, it is the owner's responsibility to clean up the waste.

LEAF PICK UP
In October the City Public Works employees vacuum leaves that Fayette citizens pile in the city parkway between the sidewalk and the back of the curb.  If you don't have a curb then place your leaves in the grassy area.  Do not put in the street.  Also, please don't mix sticks or branches with the leaves.

MOWING GRASS - Please don't blow grass in the streets because it stops up the storms sewers!

DUTY TO TRIM TREES
It is the duty of property owners to maintain trees and grass in the public right-of-ways adjacent to their property.  Trees overhanging a sidewalk must be 8 feet above the sidewalk.

SNOW REMOVAL - SIDEWALKS
Fayette city ordinance 136.03 states: "It is the responsibility of the abutting property owners to remove snow, ice and accumulations promptly from sidewalks. If a property owner does not remove snow, ice or accumulations within twenty-four (24) hours after it snows, the city may do so and assess the costs against the property owner for collection in the same manner as a property tax.

PARKING FOR SNOW REMOVAL
Fayette city ordinance 69.12 states: "All motor vehicles left parked, unattended or abandoned on any street, alley, or city-owned off-street parking from November 1 through March 31 between the hours of two o'clock (2:00) a.m. and six o'clock (6:00) a.m. shall be ticketed by Law Enforcement Officials or their designee and towed at the discretion of the Law Enforcement Officials or their designee at the owner's expense to the nearest facility, garage or impound yard approved by the Police Chief."
The Fayette city street maintenance workers request that all vehicles parallel park on Main Street when there is snow and until all the snow has been removed. Thank you for your cooperation.
